When Ole began his treatments in the early ’70s, men’s skin care was a relatively uncharted domain. “When Kirk Douglas first started consulting me in 1975, he clearly stated that he did not want it to be known that he was seeking professional treatment,” he says. “Today, as a 92 year old man, Kirk still comes in for his regular treatments and for the last several decades, he has been totally open to the public about his treatments at my spa.”
Within the past few years, Ole says that more men have come to understand that taking care of one’s skin is a mere extension of overall wellness and simply looking and feeling great. What was almost taboo has now become part of daily life for many men. In 2008, Ole designed a kit to suit the specific needs of the male complexion aptly named the men’s kit. Once believed to be a gay man’s domain, skin care has become a universal concern for straight men. “I have noticed that of the men that seek out my spa services, approximately 10 percent of those men are gay,” he says. “Clearly, your average straight male is now embracing the many benefits of great skin care.”
