Ole's Tips For Healthy Eating On The Go

For Ole, beauty means taking pride in caring for your appearance, and it begins from the inside out. “Focus on eating deliciously healthy foods and take time to practice a fitness routine that energizes and strengthens your body,” says Ole. “And don’t forget to recharge your batteries and spend time with family and loved ones.” Even with his hectic schedule and constant traveling, Ole still finds a way to eat smart rather than having to resort to eating fast food junk foods.

“When it’s a morning flight, I bring a Tupperware container with oatmeal, flaxseed, and raw almonds to the airport, and add hot milk or water from Starbucks,” says Ole. “Then, to take on the flight, I’ll bring a multigrain sandwich with either almond butter and mashed bananas or avocado, sprouts, and a little cheese.”

People tend to forget that healthy fats are vital for brain function, eyesight and the quality of your hair and skin. Because the fat is burned slowly, they also provide energy that will get you through the day. Maintain a healthy diet on the go by bringing a healthy snack with you wherever you go!

Ole's Tips for a Happy, Healthy New Year

I would like to start this New Year by thanking everyone for making 2009 a success for the OLEHENRIKSEN brand. Over the years I’ve learned the key to my success is being able to create a loving atmosphere to those around me wherever I go. Here are a few tips on how to make your 2010 a joyous one.

At work: Give your coworkers a generous, heartfelt compliment and hug for a job well done. Work can be a stressful environment and it’s important to show appreciation for the team members you work with each day.

Everyday: Acknowledge a woman on the street because she looks fabulous, or help a struggling passenger retrieve their luggage in the overhead compartment on a flight. It should always feel great to do good for others.

At home: Never take your loved ones for granted. Cook deliciously healthy meals if you have children or roommates. Couples dance to your favorite music at home if you are in a romantic relationship. My partner of 25 years, Laurence, frequently surprises me with romantic cards tucked away between my clothes in my luggage when I travel. The possibilities are endless, and that is the best part about it.

It’s true when the Beatles sing "All You Need is Love." The need to give and receive love is something we all have in common regardless of race, religion or age. Here is a toast to love, and a happy New Year!

A Cool Winter Treat For Your Skin

To maintain his glowing complexion, Ole believes in incorporating old Scandinavian rituals to create a stress free, less-is-more lifestyle. “Whether it’s the way I pack my meals (simple and healthy) to the way I pack my suitcase (by choosing a theme of two colors so I’m never left confused), it’s all about sticking to the basics and doing them faithfully,” says Ole. “Following a less-is-more approach to life keeps me happy, healthy and focused on the moment.”

One popular natural treatment Scandinavians do during the winter is to break the ice of a lake or pond to go swimming, as it awakens and revives the skin. “It must be the Viking part of our blood,” jokes Ole. Get the same effect (sans pneumonia) at home. Pour a tray of ice cubes into a sink full of cold water, dip a terry facecloth into it, and then lay it across the face for a few moments. “This is a great way to oxygenate and lift the skin,” he says. “It’s like a mini face-lift.”

Ask Ole: When should I start using an eye crème?

Many people start using an eye crème to correct signs of aging late in life. According to Ole, it’s better to use an eye crème at a young age as a preventative measure. “16 is a good age to start,” says Ole. “A sheer application is all you need at that point.” Choose a crème that is rich and dense to help reinforce the resiliency around your eyes. “The crème will bind with the skin and stay in place so you have a bounce to the skin to prevent wrinkles from setting in,” he says.

Just because you didn’t start using an eye crème as soon as you blew out your 16 candles doesn’t mean you’ve missed the boat. It’s never too late to take care of your skin. Here’s how to decide which eye crème is right for you at any age.

Under 30: Our fresh start eye crème is the most beneficial crème for this age range to prevent signs of aging. Its light and luxurious texture feels like a thickly whipped cream that absorbs readily into the skin leaving your skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Over 30: Our visual truth eye crème is the perfect solution for more mature women, as it corrects fine lines and reduces premature signs of aging. Its dense and velvety texture allows for all day moisture. Its key ingredient, African red tea, strengthens the skin’s elasticity and outer layer.

Ole's Favorite Products Revealed

Oh yes, we went there – the desert island question! We asked Ole to choose only three products from his entire collection. You see, Ole doesn’t just develop the products – he uses most of them in his weekly skin care routine. So what did he choose? See below to find out!

1. Truth Serum: “I would chose the truth serum collagen booster, that’s a given, because it gives my skin a very youthful glow,” says Ole.

2. African Red Tea Face Mist: “For an invigorating and purifying effect, I’d take my african red tea face mist,” he says. “It’s like a vitamin shot for the face and skin.”

3. Herbal Day Crème with SPF 15: “And of course, sun protection is always a must, so I’d bring my herbal day crème with SPF 15 to protect my skin,” he says.

How to show gratitude each and every day

Thanksgiving is much more than turkey and stuffing, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the good things in life and show gratitude toward the people we love. When life begins to get hectic just before the holidays, it’s not always easy to remember what we have to be thankful for, but Thanksgiving is a pleasant reminder for us to look at the positive aspects of life. Personally, I’m thankful for my health, my wonderful partner Laurence and having family and friends that I truly cherish. What are you thankful for? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Read on for some helpful tips to help your remember to be thankful and truly appreciate all you have this holiday season.

  • Express your gratitude to the world by doing something good for the environment.
  • Avoid being rude, abrupt, and insensitive towards yourself and others.
  • Send good energy into the universe and it will come back to you.
  • Express your thanks by doing one or two good deeds for people on your path on a daily basis. Even if it’s simply a smile.
  • Recognize what a great gift life is. Every one of us has something to be thankful for. Find out what that is and embrace it.
  • Take the time on a daily basis to express your thankfulness in a quiet way through a prayer or to yourself. These reminders help us appreciate our blessings each day.
  • Recognize that even the most complicated problems can be resolved.
  • Be grateful for the opportunities that life offers us.
  • Approach every situation with the right attitude of gratitude.

How to use your cleanser the right way

When it comes to cleansing my face, I used to always think that the harder I scrubbed, the cleaner my face would be. Little did I know, my heavy hand was actually doing more harm than help. Ole corrected my routine by letting me know that scrubbing too hard can actually inflame the skin and lead to broken capillaries, which is the last thing I should do with cystic acne prone skin.

“Everything that shows results always has a method behind it,” says Ole. “The best way to use a daily facial cleanser for any skin type is to gently massage in circular motions from the mid-neck while simultaneously working your hands upward and outward.” Doing this helps activate the ingredients and is also very soothing.

The on the go cleanser has been the most popular with loyal spa clients like Justin Timberlake, who raved about it in the September 2009 issue of InStyle magazine. Great for combination skin, this cleanser contains a non-drying formula that is bursting with vitamin C and elm extract to help retexturize and soothe the skin. Apply your favorite cleanser the right way to activate these skin nourishing ingredients and revitalize your skin!
