Ole's homemade beach body scrub!

Looking to get your body beach ready? Look no further! Ole Henriksen has the perfect beach body scrub for those with dry, and lackluster skin to give your skin a sexy summer glow. According to Ole, this scrub holds the secret to “baby-smooth” skin—something I know we all crave!

Here’s the recipe for Ole’s famous Beach Body Scrub:

Makes 1.5 Cups – Approximately 3 treatments

Ingredients:

½ C of finely grained sea salt

½ C of finely ground coffee

¼ C of sesame oil

½ Tsp of eucalyptus essential oil

Directions:

In a small bowl, mix the salt, coffee, sesame oil and eucalyptus oil. Use the scrub in the shower away from running water. Massage into damp skin with long, firm semi-circular movements. Take your time in order to activate all of the ingredients. Rinse well. Store the leftover scrub in the refrigerator in an air-tight Tupperware. This scrub can be used 3-4 times per week.

Sea salt is used to retexturize the skin, while the coffee grounds help firm the skin and fight cellulite. Sesame oil is an important ingredient because it nourishes and softens your skin. Finally, the eucalyptus oil purifies and oxygenates the skin.

Now you can whip out that itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikini with confidence to show off your silky smooth skin. Happy summer!

Ole's Homemade Complexion Scrub - Get Summer-Ready!

Did you know that many of our products began in Ole’s kitchen? Now you too can get inspired and treat yourself and your skin to something luxurious!

“Spring-time exfoliation is a key step in unclogging the pores and priming your skin for that summer glow,” said Ole. Another benefit to exfoliating is that it speeds up the skin’s renewal process, also known as the skin cell turn-over rate.

Physical exfoliation is great for all skin types with the exception of skin that is actively breaking out. So, if you’re concerned with wrinkle prevention, wrinkle revenge, or even if you just have this craving for silky-soft skin, then grab a pen and paper and jot down this recipe from Ole!

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Complexion Scrub:

Ingredients:

¼ cup of Brown Sugar

1 small Teaspoon of Plain Yogurt

2 Tablespoons of Sesame Oil

Kitchen Utensils:

Mixing Bowl

Measuring spoon/cup

Spatula

Directions:

Mix all of the measured ingredients together into a smooth paste and store in the refrigerator in between uses. This scrub can be used either in the morning or the evening on clean skin. Massage on the face and neck in a circular motion. Rinse with water and follow with your favorite skin tonic and creme. Ole suggests that you exfoliate 3 times per week.

Benefits:

This at-home remedy is great for deep cleansing, pore tightening, exfoliating and retexturizing. Let me break down how this scrub delivers results: Sugar not only has superb exfoliant properties, but it also contains natural Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) which help to dislodge dead skin cells and refine the skin’s texture. Plain yogurt contains Lactic Acid which aids in cell renewing/whitening and brightening. The final ingredient, sesame oil is both nourishing and soothing, while also allowing the scrub to slip across the face and neck in a gentle and effortless manner.

If you’re someone who is in the middle of an active break-out, but still want the benefits of exfoliating, try our blue/blackberry enzyme mask!

The Healing Powers Of Honey

When you think of honey, what comes to mind? Is it a sweet drizzle atop your favorite treat? Or do images of cute teddy bear containers run across your head? I think of my great-grandmother making me a big cup of warm water with honey and lemon juice, her cure-all for any ailment.

Turns out there is some truth behind my great grandmother’s home remedy. There are so many benefits to not only eating honey, but also using honey on your skin and body! Are you ready to be surprised by all the amazing powers of honey?

Honey has three main super powers:

1. Honey is a natural humectant: What this means is that honey naturally attracts and retains moisture. Having hydrated skin is important for maintaining that youthful, supple and soft appearance. Also, honey is great for preventing the appearance of scaring on the skin because it preserves moisture while also allowing for new skin tissues to grow. Amazing, right?

Did you know that honey is great for all skin types? Dry or dehydrated skin benefits because honey is the queen of sealing and locking moisture into the skin, oily skin benefits since honey yields moisture without added oil, and sensitive skin benefits since honey is known for having non-irritating properties!

2. Honey is naturally antibacterial: Honey contains a naturally occurring enzyme that prohibits the growth of bacteria. This anti-microbial agent is excellent for preventing and treating minor acne because it goes right to work attacking bacteria while also moisturizing and rejuvenating the skin!

3. Honey is full of antioxidants: Antioxidants are important in combating free-radicals in the body and outside damages from environmental agents like the sun. Antioxidants also help supply nutrients for the growth of new skin tissue!

Here at Ole Henriksen, we put honey in quite a few products like our sugar glow face scrub, our african red tea indulgent body mask, and our micro mini peel kit (step one: almond polish)! Even Cleopatra of Egypt took regular baths where she diluted honey and milk into the water to maintain a youthful appearance. Check out this recipe from Ole’s kitchen for a honey nourishing mask.

Saltwater Solution For Winter Aches And Pains

If you don’t have the time to make it to the spa this holiday season, Ole has a great saltwater soak that is perfect for treating tired and fatigued muscles.

Blend a pint of epsom salts into a warm tub of water, add a half ounce of eucalyptus essential oil and three ounces of almond oil and stir. The natural fats from the almond oil will help restore and protect your skins surface making it soft to the touch. Allow the eucalyptus aroma to blanket around you and breathe in its soothing scent. Don’t forget to roll a hand towel under your neck so you can soak comfortably.

There’s nothing wrong with putting on some tranquil music, but according to Ole, a little quiet time might be even better, “We don’t always need to have an iPod stuck in our ears. As human beings, we have a need for peace and quiet,” he says. “So much creativity flows and so many answers come to us in those moments of quiet.” Light some candles to create a calm and quiet ambience.

Celebrity Secret: Instant Face Lift, Sans Surgery

When prepping for a big red carpet event, Ole encourages his celebrity spa regulars to try his natural “Botox” treatment. While most of us will never walk the red carpet, this treatment is perfect to give your skin a boost before your New Year’s Eve festivities. Fill 4-6 brackets in an ice cube tray with the detoxifying and anti-inflammatory african red tea face mist. Convert into ice cubes, then wrap one cube in a thin white cotton handkerchief to protect your hands against the cold surface as you glide it across your entire face in slow motion. This will help release the antioxidant-packed African red tea as it melts into your skin to firm, lift and tighten your skin for a younger, more luminous complexion.

Create an at-home spa experience

If you haven’t been able to fit regular spa trips into your schedule, take Ole’s advice and create your own sweet retreat without leaving home. Treat yourself to one or two nights of bliss with the following tips.

Mind/soul
Before you begin your at home spa treatment, be sure to let everyone in your household know that you have set some private time aside for yourself and would not like to be disturbed. Lock the door and if you have a dimmer switch use it, otherwise light your favorite aromatic candle.  Put some beautiful flowers and lay out all the products you will need for your treatments to create a stress free environment. The key is to clear your mind and completely relax into your surroundings. Begin with a soothing skin inhalation therapy treatment to purify your mind and begin to awaken your pores.

Face Instead of the traditional undereye puffiness treatment of sliced cucumbers over the eyes, get more lasting results with Ole’s special treatment. Grate a cucumber and roll the pieces into gauze to create a sushi roll, Next, lay the roll across the eyelids. Grating the cucumbers helps release their anti-inflammatory benefits and the gauze allows them to seep evenly onto the delicate skin around the eyes. When we lay cucumber slices on the eyelids, they tend to get pushed away by our eyelashes or they end up sitting on top of our brow bones rather than the lid and undereye. Bonus: Place damp tea bags over your eyes to reduce puffiness. Ole recommends chamomile or African red tea for the best results.

Body
Before you step into the shower, make sure that the water is medium warm so that you don’t over dry your skin. Begin by using an exfoliating body scrub like our african red tea exotic body scrub, rub n’ buff salt scrub or loofah body scrub. Get down on one knee to scrub each foot one at a time. Rub your palms in symmetry and work your way up each leg. Continue gently exfoliating the rest of your body and rinse. When you are done, apply a soothing body lotion like our body sleek. Men with oily skin should exfoliate each time they shower to prevent blackheads from forming on their backs, while women should exfoliate two to three times a week.
